About

Luis Melendez is co-founder of MDii, LLC and Founder at Medical Mechatronics, LLC, where he is dedicated to improving patient care and enabling clinical innovation by integrating medical devices with electronic health records and transforming ideas into working prototypes.

Luis specializes in assembling ideas and processes into novel and innovative functional systems that break new ground for healthcare organizations. He’s a builder; first of visions and teams – and then of subsequent medical technologies that can be used to enable greater efficiency in operating rooms, intensive care units and other hospital areas.

To that end, he has helped build large-scale medical device connectivity systems (delivering 1.5M secure daily messages from over 4,100 integrated devices across 20 geographical locations), stand-alone medical devices, manufacturing lines for devices and sterile consumables, and hospital buildings. Just as importantly, he builds and fosters trained teams that can support and sustain the technology for decades into the future.

He has also contributed to and/or published a number of National Standards publications, including the Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation® 50-page Compendium of Medical Device Integration and Informatics, as well as board review material for continuing medical education. Further, he has taught residents and staff on anesthesia technology. He has also conducted detailed forensic investigations and made case conference presentations on medical equipment failures and untoward events.

Altogether, Luis has spent over 20 years in the medical sector engineering solutions to pressing technological and design problems. Luis’ strength is putting things, and processes, together to synthesize novel solutions and innovations that don’t exist (yet). Through his work, he has established a rich network of experts and professionals with whom he can work to help review and develop ideas as needed.

Luis has the patents, publications, attestations and practitioner’s track record of a world-class expert and contributor to international standards in medical devices and their integration.
